To successfully address energy consumption, climate change and global resource depletion, it is imperative that ecological literacy becomes a central tenet of design education. Yet today, the principals behind the interdependent relationship between the built and natural environment is lacking in many professional design curricula. To meet the immediate and future challenges facing our profession, the transformation taking place in the academic design community must be accelerated. To accomplish this, Architecture 2030 calls upon this community to adopt the 2010 Imperative as follows:
