Based on Architecture 2030’s research, the Building Sector is responsible for nearly half of the U.S. energy consumption (49%) and greenhouse gas emissions (46.9%). These figures include residential, commercial and industrial building operations and the embodied energy associated with the manufacturing the building materials, transporting the materials to the site and building the buildings. Architecture 2030’s research also indicates that building operations (including residential, commercial and industrial building operations) consume 77% of all the electricity produced in the U.S.
